Design

Sophie holds a Design Technology G.S.C.E., a foundation that continues to inform her highly focused, concept-driven approach to theatre-making. For her, design is not decorative, it is dramaturgical. ​ Across all theatres under her artistic leadership, every production has been production designed by Sophie, regardless of whether she is directing the piece. Her visual worlds are immersive, psychologically charged, and structurally embedded within the storytelling itself. Space, texture, light, and architecture function as active narrative forces, shaping audience proximity, tension, and emotional impact. Working often with limited budgets and primarily recycled materials, she transforms constraint into aesthetic language. ​ Beyond the stage, Sophie also creates original artwork for promotional campaigns and posters, extending the visual identity of each production from its first public image through to the final curtain.
